tl;dr? i donno help plz [Feb. 27th, 2008|07:04 pm]
[mood |confusedconfused]

I have a general question, I recently got a really good deal on a schwinn deluxe 7, that i couldn't really pass up. An old lady on my block had bought it for her grand daughter a couple of years back and apparently the grandkid is a bitch and didn't want it so she's had it ever since  then

the catch however is, it's still in the box, (and not assembled),it also i doesn't have the instructions for it. i went to a couple of bike shops and the average price i'm being charged for it to be assembled is $65 AN HOUR? Am i being ripped off? I feel like I am, and what makes me angry because i'm thinking a BMW dealership charges charges $75-100 an hour for labor depending at what the malfunction of your car is, and the bike shops around here are charging $65 (an hour, that's what 4 shops in my radius told me--seems like they are all on this together) to build a damn bike!

uhhhhh is this about right? I don't know much about bicycles and I was just wondering if this was about the price one pays?!

I feel really angry because I'm pretty sure the price is being jacked up because i'm a girl and I seemed kind of clueless at the first two stores ):<

I'm thinking I could probably assemble it myself, but mounting and seeing if the bolts/ wheels are alright and what not seems like a risk i can't really take right now because i have a lot of school work and getting hurt and bruised is the last thing i want to do. i also would hate to mess up the bike!

i'm rambling already and i'm super impatient and want to ride the bike NOW so i just want someone to tell me, am i being ripped off or not? should i just stfu and pay? ): god dammit this really wasn't so much in my budget and $65 just seems like a stretch

thank you very much for all of your help!

intense instructions:

simpler instructions:

from ehow:

i know that i am commenting late, hopefully you didn't spend the money to have a mechanic do it, hopefully you were distracted by something else for the past couple days and haven't been too anxious about getting it together.

is it a bike like this?

because those ones only have a rear brake, and it wouldn't be rubbing on anything

the cable is for shifting, i've got the same hub in the back

the manual should show you how to put the cable back into the holder.

sorry, i don't have much experience with bike racks.

i think they're kinda basic when looking at the trunk mount types.
