FIXEDGEARFUCKS

My frame choices have come down to the following: SOMA rush or Surly Steamroller? I have friends who have various Surlys and love them but I haven't heard much about the steamroller. Soma I know little about and since they're a newer company I'm a little more hesitant to buy their frame. Both look good, both come in "my size". Color is no issue cause I'm painting that shit, and price difference isn't big either. Thoughts?

i guess it began when i took the spinergy wheels off the triple crank touring bike and put the front wheel on the red bike.
then i traded stems.
then i took the chainring off the classic slinky euro fixie and put it on the red bike so it'd be 39x18 instead of 42x18 since i've been climbing lots of hills.
i removed the bullhorns and put on mtb bars. then took the moustache bars from the fixie missing the chainring. and the slimline brake pads from the touring bike and added a rear brake to the red bike.
then i put the mtb bars back, but traded the red glittery wald grips for the big ergo grips from the 29er.
i thought "hey, this stem is shallower than the red bike stem" so i took the stem from the 29er, and the bars looked better so i took them too.
i've got 3 bikes that i cannibalized for the red bike, i feel bad about that. a couple months ago, all the bikes were in perfect shape.
the red bike's my winter beater right now, singlespeed, i've got a fixed cog on it, but i don't ride it fixed much. it's got mx type mud guards. looks like this now.
i feel like i've betrayed my minimalist values enough already, but i can't help but think "should i add the cycle computer to it?"

what do you think?

to my sf [and bay area] bike riding brethren: http://scalleycat.blogspot.com/
it's a 12 hour long treasure hunt.

San Francisco (12 hours long) - $25/team - Cash Purse: $250 minimum
(February 29th Pre-registration @ Chrome Industries 2pm-6pm)
(March 1st/9am @ Chrome Industries on Folsom) Race!
Prizes: Chrome Bags, Cane Creek Wheelsets, New Belgium Cycling Clothing, etc, etc, etc

HOLY FUCK THAT'S A LOT OF MONEY, BUT HERE"S WHAT YOU GET: Scalleycat T-shirt, Free Food All Day (lunch and dinner, probably midnight snack too), Free Liquor ALL FUCKING DAY AND NIGHT (New Belgium's throwing down the keggage!), and if you win a shitload of cash that since we aren't Oprah you won't get charged taxes on it (we won't rat you out!).

How Scalleycat Works: It's a scavenger hunt on bikes. You need: a partner, a digital camera, and enough balls to ride for 12 full hours (SF) or 24 full hours (RNO). You get a race bible filled with objectives and you have the allotted time to fulfill as many as you can. It's a race based around city knowledge and how well you know where you live. Study up!

who here has experience riding late 70s/early 80s fuji frames? are they good or bad experiences?

i just got one today that i'm riding singlespeed, and so far it's an awesome ride. the lugged steel frame makes for some comfortable biking. pic:

what do you guys wear when you ride? i really want to start riding my bike to work and i don't want to make a production out of changing at work. so far i've only used my bike for long rides on country roads, decked in lycra et al. do you just wear normal street clothes when you go for short rides? or can you suggest any pants for biking that aren't lycra? i'm thinking more messenger style i guess. i live about 6 miles from work.

I thought this site was pretty fun for playing around on a Saturday morning. It's sort of like Nike ID, but for bikes.

Here's what I made:

Also, I thought this was funny:

and this one too:

This community isn't very active so I thought I'd just throw some stuff out there. Do you guys ride with friends or by yourselves?
